How to use Dams

When properly used Dental Dams may help reduce the risk of catching or spreading many sexually transmitted infections (STI's) such as syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, genital herpes, and HIV.

During intimate contact, such as oral-vaginal or oral-anal sex, lesions and various body fluids can transmit STI’s. A dental dam should be used each time when such contact occurs.

Dental Dams cannot eliminate the risk of infection.

Instructions for Use

  • Remove the Dam from the packet and lay flat

  • For increased sensitivity, wet one side of the Dam with a water based lubricant such as KY Gel or Sutherland Lubricating Jelly

  • Place the wet side of the Dam over the entire vulva, covering both the vaginal opening and clitoris, holding the edges of the Dam

  • In oral-anal contact cover the anus with the Dam

  • Always use a new Dam if switching between oral-vaginal and oral-anal sex

  • Dispose of Dam carefully after use
